HCMC – Bookings of flights from HCMC to different parts of the country during the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday have surpassed 90-100%, with airfares much higher than pre-holiday levels.

Popular routes from HCMC to cities such as Hue, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, and Quy Nhon are seeing heavy demand on the first day of Tet in late January 2025, with booking rates ranging between 90% and 100%, according to local media reports.

In contrast, flights from HCMC to Central and Central Highlands provinces near the end of the holiday have low booking rates, ranging from 3.29% to no more than 19.51%. However, return flights to HCMC are fully booked.

Major domestic routes, including HCMC-Hanoi and HCMC-Danang, are experiencing lower demand, with booking rates at just 15-20% throughout the holiday.

A survey of airfares for the HCMC-Hanoi route on January 21, 2025, showed that airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Vietravel Airlines are offering similar one-way prices, ranging from VND2.9 million to VND3.7 million.

Airfare prices for the days leading up to the holiday have increased sharply. Vietjet Air has raised fares by approximately 20%, while Vietravel Airlines increased prices by 17%. Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways have maintained stable prices at around VND3.6 million per one-way trip.

To meet the soaring demand, Vietnamese carriers are expanding their fleets and increasing flight frequencies on key domestic and international routes.

Between January 14 and February 12, 2025, airlines are expected to offer over 6.9 million seats, equivalent to 227,000 seats per day, a 4% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Domestic routes account for nearly 4.8 million seats (up 3.5%), while international routes provide over 2.1 million seats (up 4.6%).
