HCMC – The Long Thanh International Airport’s 110kV power substation was connected to the national grid on November 27, two months earlier than originally planned.

Developed by Dong Nai Power Company, the substation is a key component of the Long Thanh airport project, which is currently under construction in the southern province of Dong Nai.

Work on the substation and its connecting power lines began in June at a total cost of VND119 billion. Phase one includes a 40 Mega-Volt-Ampere (MVA) transformer and a 3.8km power line. Phase two, slated for completion in the third quarter of 2025, will add a second 40MVA transformer, bringing the substation’s total capacity to 80MVA.

The substation will supply power to the airport while strengthening the regional electricity grid by reducing power losses, stabilizing voltage, and improving reliability.

Currently, the airport construction is supported by two power sources: the 110kV Binh Son substation and a backup supply from the 110kV Cam My substation, providing over 20,000 kWh of electricity daily.

Once operational, Long Thanh is expected to handle 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo annually, making it a vital transportation hub for the region.
