HCMC – Dong Nai Province has reported a surplus of over VND940 billion in the Long Thanh International Airport land clearance and resettlement project, with the unspent funds to be returned to the central Government budget.
According to the Dong Nai Department of Planning and Investment, as of December 17, the central Government had allocated more than VND2.5 trillion for the project. The budget covered compensation, land acquisition, and resettlement efforts for the Long Thanh International Airport development.
The remaining VND940 billion includes around VND630 billion earmarked for land compensation and resettlement in the Loc An-Binh Son area. The remainder was designated for a vocational training program for affected residents, but the program was not implemented as many residents expressed little interest in retraining.
Launched in 2017, the project initially had an estimated cost of nearly VND23 trillion. However, due to delays, the National Assembly approved a revised budget of over VND19 trillion and extended the land acquisition deadline to the end of 2024.
The project involves clearing 5,000 hectares of land, affecting thousands of individuals and organizations, including the resettlement of around 4,400 families.
