HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered the immediate formation of a rapid response task force after the U.S. announced a 46% reciprocal tariff on goods imports from Vietnam.
The decision came during a Cabinet meeting on April 3, where Cabinet members looked into all possible implications of the U.S. trade action and discussed immediate and long-term policy responses.
The task force will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son. Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc has been assigned to oversee consultations with major exporting businesses and relevant industry groups.
PM Chinh emphasized that the global trade environment is becoming increasingly competitive, complex, and unpredictable.
He urged ministries and agencies to stay calm while adopting flexible, timely, and effective measures to get through this situation.
Beyond immediate measures, the prime minister called for comprehensive and balanced policy actions aimed at economic restructuring toward fast and sustainable growth. Key focus areas include digitalization, green transformation, science and technology, and innovation.
He said the country would need to diversify export markets, products, and supply chains, while enhancing domestic production and resource utilization.
However, the Government remains firm on its GDP growth target of 8% or higher for 2025.
