HCMC – The People’s Committee of Hanoi City has approved a zoning plan for the city’s first biotechnology-focused high-tech zone, aiming to position the capital as a hub for cutting-edge scientific research and industrial innovation.

The project will cover parts of five wards, including Tay Tuu, Lien Mac, Minh Khai, Thuy Phuong, and Co Nhue 2 in Bac Tu Liem District, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The 1:2,000-scale zoning plan aligns with the capital city’s broader urban development strategies through 2030, with a long-term vision toward 2050. It also serves as a foundation to revise Hanoi’s master plan toward 2045 and beyond, to 2065.

The area will prioritize biotechnology applications within a high-tech framework, with a focus on creating an integrated environment for research, education, production, and services. The infrastructure will be developed in line with national urban planning standards and technical design guidelines.

Key functional zones within the project include research and development centers, high-tech manufacturing facilities, technology service hubs, and training and incubation spaces. A supporting service zone in the southern section will house commercial buildings, office space, hotels, and healthcare facilities. Green parks and a central lake will provide open public space at the heart of the development.

The high-tech zone is expected to align with Vietnam’s national policies for technological advancement and economic modernization. Authorities have set a nine-month timeline to complete the detailed sub-zoning plan following the approval of this planning task.

This initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing Hanoi’s socio-economic development and elevating Vietnam’s role in the global high-tech and biotechnology landscape.
