HCMC – Hanoi City this morning, May 19, broke ground on the National Highway 1A widening project worth VND162 trillion.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was attended by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

The project stretches about 36.3 kilometers and passes through 18 wards and communes in Hanoi. The route begins at the Beltway 1 connection near the Kim Lien underpass in Kim Lien and Bach Mai wards and ends at the Cau Gie interchange in Chuyen My Commune.

The strategic transport corridor will be expanded to a cross-sectional width of up to 90 meters, featuring 10 lanes on the main route and six parallel lanes on both sides. The road is designed for speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

Under the plan, the project’s core infrastructure system is scheduled for completion by 2027 and is expected to play a key role in completing Hanoi’s core road transport network.

Once completed, the National Highway 1A corridor is expected to help redistribute traffic among beltways, reduce logistics costs, and accelerate urban redevelopment and urbanization along the corridor while strengthening links between central Hanoi, neighboring localities and coastal areas.

To ensure progress, the city government called on relevant agencies and local authorities to coordinate closely on land clearance and resettlement while safeguarding the legitimate rights of affected residents and creating favorable conditions for contractors to carry out construction safely and in line with technical standards.

Vingroup, representing a consortium of investors, said it had fully prepared financial and technical resources and pledged to mobilize manpower and modern equipment to ensure professional construction and timely completion of the project.
