HCMC – Vietnam has rolled out electronic toll collection (ETC) services at 163 stations nationwide, with over six million vehicles already tagged. Authorities are now extending the service to train stations and parking areas to improve convenience for users.
The Ministry of Construction is working on a master plan and overall framework for a smart transportation system, which will integrate and share data with urban traffic management and operations, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The ministry has instructed project investors to develop smart transportation systems on expressways under its management, including traffic monitoring, ETC services, and vehicle weight checks. The systems are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
A key task assigned to the ministry by the Central Steering Committee for 2025 is to implement ETC services at bus stations and urban parking areas. The initiative aims to assess its effectiveness, improve traffic management, and promote urban civility.
