HCMC – Metro Line No. 1, which connects Ben Thanh Market and Suoi Tien Theme Park in HCMC, has served around 10 million passengers in six months of operation, beating the target by over 48%.

According to a representative of HCMC Urban Railway No.1 (HURC1), the metro line has operated 34,626 train trips to date, fulfilling 100.3% of its planned schedule.

Daily ridership averages 57,785 passengers, with around 50,423 on weekdays and up to 76,414 on weekends.

The metro line currently operates nine trains, running daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with peak-hour intervals of every eight minutes. Each train can carry up to 930 passengers, including 147 seated and 783 standing.

Ticket prices range from VND6,000 to VND20,000 per trip. A one-day pass costs VND40,000, while a three-day pass is priced at VND90,000. Monthly passes are available for VND300,000, with a discounted rate of VND150,000 for students.

Metro Line No. 1, the first of its kind in HCMC, stretches 19.7 kilometers and includes 14 stations, with three underground and 11 elevated. The project carries a total investment of approximately VND43.7 trillion.

Construction started in 2012, and the line officially commenced commercial operations on December 22, 2024.

Under HCMC’s urban railway development plan, the city aims to build and complete seven metro lines totaling 355 kilometers within the next 10 years.

To achieve this goal, the city plans to allocate VND209.5 trillion from central budget funds, increased revenue, spending cuts, and other sources. It will also seek ODA funding, issue local government bonds, and leverage land value around metro stations through a transit-oriented development (TOD) model.
