HCMC — HCMC plans to relocate 5,548 of 6,500 makeshift homes by the end of the year, reaching 85.35% of its target, according to the city’s Construction Department.
The initiative is part of the city’s 2021-2025 urban redevelopment plan, aiming to improve living conditions and urban infrastructure by moving residents from riverside and canal areas, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
The department said it would prioritize securing investment approvals and public funding for the next phase of urban projects. These include social housing and resettlement developments to accommodate relocated households.
The department also plans to revise zoning along waterways to optimize land use after relocations. The move aims to enhance urban planning and land efficiency.
HCMC will focus on its 2025-2030 Urban Redevelopment Plan, targeting makeshift homes in Chanh Hung, Binh Dong, and Phu Dinh wards, previously part of District 8.
The city will also allocate funds to inspect, repair, and rebuild apartment blocks built before 1975, prioritizing the renovation of aging buildings.
