HCMC – HCMC will extend social housing support to people who already own homes but live far from their workplaces, reported local media.

From October 1, 2025, individuals living in wards at least 14.5 kilometers from their workplaces, or in communes 20 kilometers away, may be eligible if the social housing project is closer to their workplace than their current residence. A margin of 0.5 km is accepted.

In the Con Dao Special Zone, the policy excludes homeowners, except for those with less than 15 square meters of living space per person.

The Department of Construction will oversee implementation. Social housing developers must accept and process applications in line with regulations. The regulation will remain in effect until May 31, 2030.

Separately, at a special session in late August, the HCMC People’s Council approved rental subsidies for public employees and workers affected by the restructuring of provincial-level administrative units.

Support levels will vary by position. Officials with a position allowance coefficient of 0.9 or higher will receive VND10.4 million per month. Those with a coefficient between 0.7 and 0.9 will get VND8 million, while others, including workers without allowances, will receive VND4.8 million.

The policy applies to public employees, civil servants, workers at state-run units, and officials from designated agencies, including the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Statistics Office, and judicial bodies.

Rental subsidies took effect from July 1, 2025, and continue until beneficiaries are allocated housing or until June 30, 2027.
