HCMC – The U.S. government shutdown has disrupted funding for its overseas representative offices, leading to the temporary closure of the U.S. Centers in Hanoi and HCMC.

Due to the U.S. government’s funding disruption, the American Centers in Hanoi and HCMC will remain closed until further notice. The U.S. Mission in Vietnam has advised the public to check travel.state.gov for updates on services and operational status.

Passport and visa services at U.S. embassies and consulates, including those scheduled in the United States, will continue during the budget lapse where possible.

The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi said on its official Facebook page that, due to the U.S. government’s budget lapse, the account would not be updated regularly until operations return to normal, except for posts concerning emergency safety and security information.

The U.S. government officially shut down at 12:00 a.m. on October 1 (local time, 11 a.m. in Vietnam) after Congress failed to pass a funding bill.
