HCMC – The National Assembly (NA) has passed resolutions approving the prime minister’s proposals on the discharge of several ministers for the current 2021–2026 term, including the foreign minister and the minister of home affairs.
On the afternoon of October 24, the NA continued the agenda of its 10th and final sitting as lawmakers voted to adopt resolutions approving the prime minister’s requests that Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra, and Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy be dismissed.
Following the voting session, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presented to the National Assembly a report proposing the approval of appointments for deputy prime ministers and several ministers for the 2021–2026 term. The NA then discussed these proposals within its delegations.
The legislature also adopted a resolution on the number of deputy prime ministers for the 15th tenure of the National Assembly.
At its 13th plenum from October 6 to 8, the Party Central Committee gave opinions for the Politburo to decide on nominations for the 15th NA to elect key positions, including the NA Secretary-General, Chief of the NA Office, Chairman of the NA Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, and Chairman of the Committee for Deputies’ Affairs. The committee also approved personnel for the positions of deputy prime ministers, minister of foreign affairs, and minister of home affairs.
At the eighth extraordinary session of the 15th NA in August 2024, Bui Thanh Son, then Minister of Foreign Affairs, was approved by the National Assembly to serve as deputy prime minister for the 2021–2026 term. Currently, Le Hoai Trung, member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, has been serving as acting minister of foreign affairs since late August this year.
Pham Thi Thanh Tra has served as minister of home affairs since April 2021. Recently, the prime minister picked Do Thanh Binh, secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, as permanent deputy minister of home affairs.
