HCMC adds VND4 billion in new donations to support flood-hit areas

HCMC — The Relief Mobilization Committee under the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of HCMC has received an additional VND4 billion in cash and in kind to support communities affected by recent storms and floods.

At a ceremony on November 12, The Saigon Times and OCBS Securities JSC donated VND180 million to the committee to assist residents in disaster-hit areas. The donation was raised by OCBS employees through the campaign “Saigon Times – Great Circle – Helping people affected by storms and floods” program.

According to Phan Hong An, vice chairman of the HCMC Fatherland Front Committee, the city has distributed funds and goods to provinces severely affected by storms and organized visits to support recovery efforts.

As of November 11, the committee had received over 15,000 contributions totaling nearly VND225 billion, along with 19,000 family medicine kits, 70 tons of rice, and 90 tons of essential goods worth more than VND7 billion.

Nationwide, natural disasters have left 286 people dead or missing, 433 injured, and damaged more than 791,000 houses, with estimated losses of VND69 trillion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. Typhoon Kalmaegi alone caused five deaths, 17 injuries, and VND7.1 trillion in damages.
