HCMC – Quang Ngai Province on January 15 reviewed a proposal to invest around VND3.77 trillion in an LNG port, terminal and storage project at the Dung Quat Economic Zone, reported local media.

The proposal was discussed at a meeting chaired by Vice Chairman of the Quang Ngai People’s Committee Do Tam Hien, with participation from the Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks Authority and relevant provincial departments.

According to the authority, the project is planned for the eastern industrial area of the Dung Quat Economic Zone, in Van Tuong Commune. It is designed with an initial rapid gas supply capacity of 0.5 million tons of LNG per year, followed by a first phase adding about 0.7 million tons per year.

The project would operate for 50 years from the date the State allocates or leases land.

The project aims to produce and trade natural gas and liquefied natural gas, as well as generate commercial electricity and steam from a cogeneration system. It also includes the construction of a port, gas pipelines from the port to storage facilities, and pipelines supplying end users.

The investor said the project would supply cleaner fuel, reduce environmental pollution and meet LNG demand from large-scale projects operating or planned in the Dung Quat Economic Zone and industrial parks across Quang Ngai Province.

Hien said the proposal aligns with the province’s orientation to attract investment in technology, new energy and clean energy sectors. He added that the provincial government would support investors to ensure stable and effective operations.

The People’s Committee of Quang Ngai assigned the Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks Authority to coordinate with relevant agencies to guide the investor, address difficulties and support completion of required procedures in accordance with regulations, as a basis for the next steps of the project.
