HCMC – At the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump, Chairman of the Board of Peace on Gaza, Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam will visit the United States from February 18 to 20 for attending the inaugural meeting of the board, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ press release cited by the Vietnam News Agency.

This landmark visit underscores Vietnam’s commitment to international responsibility and its proactive role in global peace initiatives as a founding member of the board. On this occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to the U.S. Nguyen Quoc Dung highlighted the strategic significance and key messages of the Party General Secretary’s mission in Washington D.C.

Accordingly, To Lam will join other world leaders to deliberate on the implementation of the peace plan for the Gaza Strip, in accordance with the United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 2830. The ambassador emphasized that the presence of Vietnam’s top leader demonstrates the nation’s readiness to contribute to collective international efforts for stability and development. This participation also concretizes international cooperation under the framework of the Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

From a diplomatic perspective, Vietnam’s role as a founding member reflects the foreign policy mandate of the 14th National Party Congress. That is “to participate more proactively and responsibly in addressing regional and international issues.” Having endured devastating wars, Vietnam deeply understands the value of peace, reconciliation, and post-conflict reconstruction. This mission serves to enhance the country’s prestige while providing an opportunity to share Vietnam’s practical experience in overcoming the aftermath of war.

Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung noted that while Vietnam is not a wealthy nation, it is prepared to contribute human and material resources within its capacity to support socio-economic recovery and stabilize the lives of the Palestinian people, in line with international law and the UN Charter.

Beyond the multilateral framework, the visit holds significant weight for bilateral ties. President Donald Trump’s direct invitation to Party General Secretary To Lam highlights the mutual respect and growing political trust between the two nations. The Party General Secretary’s attendance is expected to further deepen cooperation on global issues and provide fresh momentum for the Vietnam-U.S. relationship in the years ahead.
