HA NOI – The domestic retail market has begun resuming operations after three days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, according to a quick report by the Domestic Market Management and Development Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Major retail store chains including Co.opmart, Go! & Big C, Winmart/Winmart+, Lotte and MM Mega Market resumed operations on the fourth day of Tet today, February 20.
Store shelves are well stocked with fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, and essential consumer goods. Retailers have also launched early spring promotional programs while maintaining price stability compared to the pre-Tet period.
Traditional markets have also become livelier. Beyond fresh flowers and fruits, small traders have begun selling fresh meat, seafood and vegetables. Favorable weather conditions have ensured a steady supply of green vegetables, keeping prices on par with the days leading up to the holiday.
While prices for certain fresh items like beef and seafood have slightly edged up due to the higher dietary demand, these increases have not piled pressure on the price index. Overall, the market is following its usual trajectory without any shortages reported.
Reports from provincial departments of industry and trade indicate that total Tet inventory has increased by 10-15% compared to normal months, with major distributors increasing their stock of essential goods by 20-40%.
To date, the country’s 34 provinces and centrally governed cities have implemented market stabilization programs. In Hanoi, 19 units are supplying goods across 10,700 points of sale. In HCMC, over 89 participating enterprises account for 23% to 43% of the market, depending on the product category.
As more supermarkets and traditional markets are expected to reopen, the supply of goods will be further replenished. While purchasing power is anticipated to focus on fresh food and vegetables, prices are expected to remain steady, ensuring social security and creating momentum for business activities to return to normal immediately after the long traditional holiday.
