HCMC – The Police Department for Fire Fighting and Rescue of HCMC has issued a stern warning against the dangerous trend of stockpiling gasoline and oil at home following a significant surge in retail fuel prices yesterday.
The department has noted that some residents have begun purchasing fuel in large cans and bottles for storage or small-scale resale, a practice that poses a severe fire and explosion risk in densely populated residential areas. Gasoline is highly flammable, and even minor leaks or static sparks can ignite catastrophic blazes.
The department advises citizens to purchase only enough fuel for immediate needs and warns that water should never be used to extinguish fuel fires, as it can cause the flames to spread more rapidly. Families are urged to keep any necessary fuel in well-ventilated areas away from living spaces, exit routes, and electrical sources.
Meanwhile, in Hanoi, the Department of Industry and Trade has moved to tighten market oversight to prevent hoarding and unauthorized sales suspensions. The department has directed major fuel suppliers to balance their import and domestic sources to ensure an uninterrupted supply for the capital’s distribution network. Retailers are strictly prohibited from closing doors or intentionally creating artificial shortages to wait for further price increases.
Under the latest price management effective March 7, E5RON92 gasoline rose by VND3,777 per liter to a maximum of VND25,226, while RON95-III jumped by VND4,707 to VND27,047 VND per liter. This sharp upward adjustment, driven by escalating Middle East tensions impacting global energy markets, has triggered concerns over domestic supply constraints and unsafe hoarding practices among consumers.
