HCMC – Domestic gold prices were largely unchanged on the morning of March 16, with SJC-branded gold bars holding steady from the close of the previous session, while the U.S. dollar at commercial banks edged up slightly against the Vietnamese dong.
At around 8:40 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) listed SJC-branded gold bars at VND179.6 million per tael for buying and VND182.6 million for selling, unchanged from the close last week.
ACB quoted SJC-branded gold bars at VND180.6 million per tael for buying, up VND100,000 from the previous close, while the selling price slipped VND400,000 to VND182.6 million.
Mi Hong listed SJC-branded gold bars at VND180.6 million per tael for buying and VND182.6 million for selling, both up VND300,000 compared with the close last week.
Gold ring prices were also unchanged. SJC quoted gold rings at VND179.3 million per tael for buying and VND182.3 million for selling, while Phu Quy listed them at VND179.5 million and VND182.5 million, respectively.
Globally, gold traded at around US$5,003 per ounce at 8:47 a.m. (Vietnam time), down by US$14.1 per ounce from the same time in the previous session.
Silver prices declined on the same morning. At 8:40 a.m., Ancarat listed silver at over VND2.98 million per tael for buying and nearly VND3.08 million for selling, down by VND46,000 and VND48,000 from the close last week, respectively. Silver priced by kilogram was quoted at VND79.55 million for buying and VND82 million for selling, down by VND1.23 million and VND1.28 million per kilogram.
Phu Quy quoted silver at VND2.98 million per tael for buying and VND3.07 million for selling, down by VND40,000 and VND41,000 from the previous close. Silver by kilogram was listed at VND79.52 million for buying and VND81.97 million for selling, down by VND1.07 million and VND1.09 million.
On the same morning, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) set the central foreign exchange rate at VND25,068 per U.S. dollar, up by VND3 from the previous session.
At commercial banks, the U.S. dollar edged up slightly. Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,081 for buying and VND26,321 for selling, both up by VND3 from the close last week. ACB listed the dollar at VND26,110 for buying, unchanged from the previous session, and VND26,321 for selling, up by VND3.
