HCMC – Many parts of the country are experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures ranging from 38 to 40 degrees Celsius, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Hot weather is expected to persist until around April 17 before gradually easing.
Notably, the weather center warned that real-feel outdoor temperatures in urban areas could be 2-4 degrees Celsius higher than forecast, depending on road surface conditions such as asphalt and concrete.
In April, temperatures from the north-central province of Thanh Hoa to the central city of Hue are projected to be 1.5-2.5 degrees Celsius above the long-term average, while other regions may see increases of 0.5-1.5 degrees Celsius.
On April 13, the most extreme heat is forecast for the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue, where temperatures will be particularly severe and relative humidity may drop to as low as 30-35%.
In the northwest region and central provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, temperatures are expected to range from 36-38 degrees Celsius, with some locations exceeding 38 degrees Celsius. Southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands will continue to experience widespread heat, with temperatures reaching 35-37 degrees Celsius.
With elevated temperatures persisting and humidity falling, the risk of fires and explosions in residential areas is rising due to increased electricity demand. People are advised to limit outdoor activities during peak hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to avoid dehydration and heatstroke.
