HCMC – The main route of the Hau Giang-Ca Mau expressway, built at a cost of more than VND17 trillion, has been reopened to traffic today, April 29.

The 73.2-kilometer Hau Giang-Ca Mau expressway section has largely completed its main construction works and now meets safety standards for opening to traffic, said Le Duc Tuan, deputy director of the My Thuan Project Management Board.

The Hau Giang-Ca Mau component is part of the eastern North-South Expressway for the 2021-2025 period. The main route was previously technically opened to traffic and put into temporary operation from January 19, 2026, to meet travel demand during the Lunar New Year holiday.

However, traffic on the section had been suspended since on March 16 to allow the completion of auxiliary works such as bridge abutment slope reinforcement and concrete shoulders.

According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, the temporary closure was intended to ensure quality and safety before the project entered official operation.

The route will have a maximum speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour and a minimum speed of 60 kilometers per hour.

The opening of the Hau Giang-Ca Mau section is expected to complete a key stretch of the eastern North-South expressway, improve connectivity across the Mekong Delta, and boost economic and social development in the region.
