HCMC – Construction of Long Thanh International Airport’s Component 3 has reached nearly 76% of the value of signed contracts, with more than 7,300 workers deployed under a 180-day acceleration campaign, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
ACV said on June 22 that progress had improved after nearly three weeks of the campaign aimed at completing key works for the airport’s first phase by the end of 2026, reported local media.
The corporation has coordinated with the project management board, supervision consultants, and contractors to prioritize critical works that affect the project’s completion schedule.
By mid-June, major construction packages had exceeded VND56.34 trillion, equivalent to 67.93% of contract value. This was up 3.35 percentage points from early June, ACV reported.
Contractors have also increased manpower, equipment, and materials for the final construction stage. The workforce at the site has risen by about 4.54% since the campaign was launched.
A key milestone was completed on June 9 when ACV and Dong Nai Power Company energized the project’s power system. Electricity was supplied from a 110kV substation to the airport’s power receiving station through six 22kV feeders, providing power for construction, equipment installation, testing, and future operations.
Three packages under Component Project 3 have been largely completed. They cover the airport boundary fence within the 1,810-hectare site, land leveling and drainage works, and foundation piling for the passenger terminal.
ACV is prioritizing the remaining packages to ensure construction activities remain synchronized across the project.
Package 4.8, covering internal roads and airport infrastructure, remains one of the largest ongoing contracts. The package includes internal transport systems, power supply, water supply and drainage networks, viaducts, utility stations, and supporting facilities.
By mid-June, work on the package had reached about VND6.86 trillion out of a contract value of more than VND11.06 trillion, equivalent to nearly 62%.
ACV said it continues to coordinate site handovers and infrastructure connections between contractors, including electricity, water, and transportation systems, to support integrated project delivery.
The airport project is entering the peak rainy season in southeastern Vietnam, which could affect outdoor construction, material transport, and equipment installation. ACV, the project management board, contractors, and consultants have adjusted construction plans and implemented safety measures to maintain progress.
ACV described the 180-day campaign as a decisive phase for completing essential facilities in the airport’s first phase. The corporation said it would continue monitoring site progress, coordinating resources, and addressing issues to keep the project on schedule.
Long Thanh International Airport is a national aviation infrastructure project approved by the National Assembly in 2015. When fully completed, it is designed to handle 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo annually.
In its first phase, the airport would be able to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo a year. The project is planned to have two runways, one passenger terminal, and supporting infrastructure, with commercial operations targeted by the end of 2026.
