VN-Index slips although liquidity at one-week high

HCMC – The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange lost a fractional 0.01% today, December 14, but liquidity on the southern stock market rose to a one-week high, buoyed by solid cash flow.

The benchmark index lost 0.19 points to close at 1,476.02, with losing stocks outnumbering winning ones by 265 to 194.

There were more than 964.1 million shares worth some VND27.65 trillion changing hands on the HCMC market, increasing 11% in volume and 7% in value compared with the previous session. Some 49.3 million shares worth over VND2.43 trillion were traded in block deals.

Bluechips were mixed. Real estate company PDR, jewelry firm PNJ, property developer KDH and lender STB suffered the steepest drop, down 5.9% to VND92,500, 2.3% to VND96,200, 2.2% to VND48,500, and 1.9% to VND28,100, respectively. VPB, BVH, SSI, VJC and HDB lost 1.1-1.5%.

In contrast, steelmaker HPG and electricity company POW were the biggest contributors as they soared 2.5% to VND47,700 and VND16,600, respectively.

Besides, fuel distributor PLX rose 1.5% to VND54,500, while TCB, GAS, SAB, MWG, MSN and NVL inched up 0.2-0.9%.

In the group of speculative stocks, real estate and construction stocks were the best performers, with ITA, CII, QCG, NBB and MCG shooting up to the ceiling prices. In addition, HQC, ROS, GEX, FCN and DIG surged 3.1-6.4%.

The biggest gainers also included steel stocks as HSG, NKG and POM hit their upper limits, while SMC and TLH surged nearly 5%.

Small and medium stocks led the market in terms of liquidity. Property firm HQC, construction company ROS and industrial zone developer ITA had 50.1 million, 33.5 million and 30.8 million shares changing hands, respectively.

In contrast, DPG and PTL dropped to the floor prices and FLC, LDG, LCG, VCG, HAI, FIT, IJC, HHS, APH, PAN, TSC and ASM also dipped into the red.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index lost 2.88 points, or 0.63%, to close at 454.68, with 94 gainers and 149 losers. There were more than 108 million shares worth some VND3 trillion changing hands.

Construction firms CMS and VC2 were the biggest gainers as they shot up to their ceiling prices of VND36,800 and VND61,600, respectively.

LAS, KVC, PVL and PVI also achieved strong growth, soaring 6.6-8.4%.

The steepest decliner was securities stock APS, which fell to the floor price at VND34,600. Other major draggers included SHS, PVS, IDC, ART, AMV, TVC, BCC, HHG, PVC, LIG and MBS.
