HCMC – Covid-19 treatment facilities in HCMC need some 170 tons of liquid oxygen per day, which may increase to 350 tons in the coming periods, while oxygen suppliers can provide only around 150 tons per day.

The information was included in a statement on the supply of medical oxygen to Covid-19 patients in the city that the HCMC government sent to the prime minister on December 23, news site VnExpress reported.

According to the municipal government, production and business activities in the city have recovered. Most medical oxygen suppliers in the city and adjacent localities have shifted to producing industrial oxygen.

The city currently has five suppliers of medical oxygen, which have been providing 150 tons per day.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in HCMC and the neighboring provinces has been rising, leading to a higher demand for medical oxygen at hospitals.

The five liquid oxygen suppliers have a combined capacity of 542 tons per day. If the volume of liquid oxygen provided to the steel production is reduced, the demand for medical oxygen will be met.

Therefore, the city proposed the prime minister direct the Ministry of Industry and Trade to reduce the industrial oxygen supply for steel production in the next three months, especially during the Tet holiday, to ensure adequate oxygen supplies for medical facilities in HCMC.
