HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 14,818 new Covid-19 cases this evening, January 10, with 35 of them being imported and the remaining 14,783 being locally-infected cases, declining by 968 domestic cases from the previous day.

The new domestic infections were found in all localities nationwide but Daklak Province. Hanoi again reported the most infections at 2,830, followed by Khanh Hoa with 795 cases. Binh Phuoc, Binh Dinh, Haiphong, Ca Mau each had 540-640 cases, while Tay Ninh, HCMC, Vinh Long and Danang each saw fewer than 500 cases.

The country in the day also reported over 89,800 new recoveries and 212 more fatalities.

Up to now, the Covid tally in Vietnam has exceeded 1.9 million cases. Its total recoveries and deaths were over 1.59 million and over 34,500 cases, respectively.

In related news, dine-in services in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau were resumed today, after months of suspension due to Covid. Yesterday, Nguyen Van Dung, director of the provincial Health Department, issued a decision lowering the Covid transmission risk in the southernmost province to moderate and low, reported Phap Luat newspaper.

Earlier, Bac Lieu, another province in the delta, also lowered its Covid transmission risk from high to moderate to create favorable conditions for local dine-in businesses. In the six previous months, local residents were not allowed to eat out as the province continuously enforced the stay-at-home mandate and banned dine-in services.

In Hau Giang Province, as its Covid situation has been brought under control, the provincial government decided to allow the 12th graders in Long My Town, and in the districts of Vi Thuy and Long My to return to in-person classes starting today. Students of the remaining grades across this Mekong Delta province will continue virtual learning.
