HCMC – Four Vietnamese people, including three returnees from overseas and a HCMC resident, have been confirmed as the four new Covid-19 patients in Vietnam, raising the nation’s tally to 249 as of this evening, April 7.
According to the Health Ministry, the 247th patient is a 28-year-old man from HCMC’s Binh Thanh District. He commuted to Gia Dinh Shoe Company’s branch in the southern province of Dong Nai and came into close contact with his two colleagues who had been confirmed as the 124th and 151st Covid-19 cases.
After the 124th case was found to have caught the novel coronavirus, he was put in quarantine at a student dorm in Dong Nai on March 24 and tested negative for the flu-like virus on March 26.
However, his next test result came back positive on April 6, the last day of his mandatory quarantine period. He was sent to the Dong Nai Lung Hospital for isolation and treatment, still showing no symptoms of the disease.
The remaining patients reported today are three Vietnamese men who arrived from Russia, Japan, and the U.S. from March 22 and 25. They were transferred to quarantine facilities upon arrival.
Notably, the 248th case tested positive for the virus on the last day of his 14-day quarantine period. Earlier, he was sent to a quarantine center in HCMC on March 23 and he was in good health during his stay at the facility.
Meanwhile, the 249th patient, aged 55, had been infected with the disease on March 10 in the U.S. before getting back to Vietnam on March 22.
To date, 122 out of 249 coronavirus patients nationwide have recovered and been released from hospitals. The remaining 127 cases are active. Also, the nation has not recorded any virus fatalities.
