HCMC – A 74-year-old British man, who was in critical condition after contracting the coronavirus, has made a full recovery, according to the Ministry of Health.

After nearly one month of treatment, the 28th case, who had been put on ventilators, was released from the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Dong Anh District, Hanoi City, on April 13. He and his wife, who had also caught and recovered from the virus and was discharged earlier from the hospital, returned to the United Kingdom this morning, April 14.

The couple traveled to Vietnam on Vietnam Airlines’ Flight VN0054 though Hanoi-based Noi Bai International Airport on March 2.

Dr Dong Phu Khiem, deputy head of the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital, told the local media that the man, Dixong John Garth, has suffered from lymphoma for 10 years. On March 13, he tested positive for Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and was hospitalized at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

The patient experienced breathing difficulties on March 22 and deteriorated into respiratory failure on March 27, so he was moved to the hospital’s intensive care unit.

On April 5, the seriously ill patient experienced life-threatening stages but eventually reduced his reliance on mechanical ventilation. His negative test results came out on April 13.
