HCMC – Around 1.55 million motorcycle license plates and over 600,000 car license plates will be up for online bidding in the upcoming sixth license plate auction, announced the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security.
A representative of the Vietnam Partnership Auction (VPA) said this will be the first auction for motorcycle license plates and the largest auction to date, featuring more than 2.1 million plates from the country’s 63 provinces and centrally-governed cities. Among them, 624,800 are car license plates, while 1.55 million are for motorcycles.
Hanoi and HCMC have the highest number of listed plates, with 217,754 and 212,026, respectively. The auction will also feature premium license plates with sought-after number sequences, such as “55555,” “66666,” “77777,” “88888,” “99999,” and “56789.”
Participants must place a deposit of VND40 million for car license plates and VND5 million for motorcycle plates.
The starting price for re-auctioned plates featuring special formats such as “AAAAA” or “ABCDE” after the second round is set at VND500 million for cars and VND50 million for motorcycles.
The auction will be conducted online using an ascending bid method. The sixth auction will begin 30 days after the official license plate list is published, starting from March 5.
