ACV considers cutting airport service fees to support airlines

HCMC – Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is weighing reducing fees for certain aviation services subject to state-regulated pricing, in a move aimed at helping airlines optimize operating costs as global Jet A-1 fuel prices trend upward again.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East pushed aviation fuel prices in Asia (FOB Singapore) to US$214-216 per barrel on April 13, up more than US$3 from the previous session. In other markets, Jet A-1 prices also remained elevated, reaching US$203.55 per barrel in South Korea and US$192 per barrel in Northwest Europe, an increase of more than US$10, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

In addition to adjusting airport service fees, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation is implementing measures to optimize airspace use and enhance flexible air traffic flow management. Coordination with military authorities and regional partners to adopt more flexible flight routes and avoid congestion is expected to help airlines directly cut fuel consumption and operating costs, as WTI and Brent crude, the world’s two primary oil benchmarks, hover around US$99 per barrel.

The proposed fee reductions are based on assessments of how energy price volatility is affecting actual operations. The move is seen as part of broader efforts by infrastructure operators to stabilize the domestic aviation market, prevent sharp fare increases, and ensure the continuity of air transport supply chains amid unpredictable swings in global energy markets.
