HCMC – Airfares on key domestic routes in Vietnam have surged and flight tickets are rapidly selling out ahead of the April 30-May 1 holiday.

Tickets on popular routes from Hanoi and HCMC to tourist destinations such as Danang, Nha Trang, Dalat, and Phu Quoc are already scarce between April 29 and May 3, with many flights fully booked, according to airline booking data.

One-way economy fares commonly range from VND2.5 million to VND4.5 million, with some routes nearing the domestic price cap.

A Hanoi-Nha Trang round trip ticket costs about VND7.4 million on Vietnam Airlines and VND7.2 million on Vietjet Air, excluding checked baggage.

Direct flights on the busy Hanoi-Phu Quoc route on April 30 are largely sold out in economy class, leaving only more expensive connecting flights via HCMC. Return flights on May 3 show a similar pattern, with most airlines offering only premium economy or limited remaining seats.

Flight tickets on the Hanoi-Danang route during the April 30-May 1 holiday peak are sold out at prime hours. Passengers opting for late evening or overnight departures can still find seats, with Vietnam Airlines offering premium economy fares from about VND3.6 million and Vietjet from around VND2.3 million.

On the return leg, only premium economy tickets are available, costing between VND3.6 million and VND4.8 million each.

Despite higher aviation fuel costs, airlines are striving to add services to meet rising travel demand.

Vietnam Airlines Group, including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and Vasco, is planning to offer nearly 1.12 million seats on domestic and international flights during the Hung Kings’ death anniversary and the April 30-May 1 holiday, up 15.5% from the same period in 2025.

Vietjet Air will add 500 flights, up 16% from a year earlier. Total capacity during the April 30-May 1 peak is expected to reach 832,000 seats, up 18% year-on-year.

The additional flights will be deployed on high demand domestic routes, especially those connecting major hubs such as Hanoi and HCMC with key tourist destinations including Danang, Nha Trang, Hue, Quang Binh, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa and Phu Quoc.
