HCMC – A fire tore through a four-story karaoke bar in Binh Duong last night, killing at least 14 people and severely injuring many others, the local authority said.

Fourteen people, both males and females, were found dead. The identities of the victims are still unknown.

The injured were sent to An Phu General Hospital and Binh Duong General Hospital for treatment, according to the local media.

The blaze broke out at the karaoke bar, An Phu, on Tran Quang Dieu Street, An Phu Ward, Thuan An City, Binh Duong, at around 9 p.m. on September 6.

The fire started on the second and third floors, raging on the soundproof foam mattress and wooden furniture, then spreading to the exit doors, locking many people inside the building.

In an attempt to escape from the blaze, four people jumped out of the second floor of the building at a height of 7-8 meters and sustained injuries.

Some 13 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene. Rescuers successfully pulled 22 people out of the building and many of them lost consciousness due to asphyxiation.

The fire was brought under control after 40 minutes.

The local police are determining the cause of the fire.
