HCMC – All ferry services between the islands and the mainland of Kien Giang Province were halted again starting this morning, July 20, until further notice, due to bad weather, said a local maritime official.

The ferry services on the routes of Phu Quoc-Rach Gia, Phu Quoc-Ha Tien, Rach Gia-Nam Du are subject to the suspension to ensure safety of passengers, said Tran Van Tai, director of the Kien Giang Maritime Administration.

Waterway services providers have notified their ticket agents and passengers of the suspension to refund money to those that made earlier bookings or reschedule their trips to the following days if the weather improves.

Last week, bad weather also caused all ferry services on these routes and others to be put on hold from July 11 and 14.

Since the start of the summer vacation, a huge volume of tourists has flocked to Phu Quoc, a popular island city, and Kien Hai in the province, with many of them traveling by sea.

The suspension of ferry services caused by bad weather has left a negative impact on tourists, especially those who were about to leave the islands or made earlier bookings.

The unexpected weather also disrupted their travel itineraries, outdoor sightseeing tours, and boat tours to the islands using.

According to Nguyen Xuan Da, director of the Kien Giang Inland Waterway Administration, passenger waterway transport services to and from adjacent islands remain operational, including those on the routes of Rach Gia-Hon Son, Rach Gia-Hon Tre, Ha Tien-Tien Hai, Ba Hon-Hon Nghe, and Ba Hon-Son Hai.
