HCMC – The HCMC Department of Planning and Architecture has written to the municipal government putting forward three solutions to rebuild the roundabout in front of Ben Thanh Market.

The first solution is to rebuild the roundabout based on the old structure, meaning the direction of traffic would remain the same. It is seen as easy and quick.

As for the second solution, the roundabout would be made to connect it with the September 23 Park and the Le Loi Street through the underground public transit system. The solution would require more time and money.

The third solution is to design a cityscape in front of the market, relocate the statue of General Tran Nguyen Han and rearrange traffic direction.

Of the three solutions, the third solution is the most suitable and practical as it is in line with the city’s planning and can maintain the characteristics and culture of the space, according to the municipal department.

In addition, the department also proposed carrying out the project into two phases. The first phase would begin with developing a square in front of the Ben Thanh Market, growing trees to create a green space, designing a location for the statue.

In the second phase, the square would be connected with the September 23 Park and Le Loi Street, while traffic would be rearranged.
