HCMC – Leading chemical producer BASF, in collaboration with local social enterprise Think Playgrounds, has recently inaugurated a new public playground for over 18,000 children in Binh Tan District, HCMC.
Located at the Tan Tao Ward Sports and Cultural Center, the project will improve the availability of recreational facilities for youngsters, especially those from local migrant worker families.
The playground will encourage children to take part in creative activities that would support their personal growth and raise awareness of the natural world. It was part of the efforts held to celebrate the June 5 World Environment Day.
The project features environmentally-friendly materials such as fast-growing eucalyptus wood, old tyres and panels made from plastic waste. All the facilities were installed and decorated by the BASF volunteers and local members of the Binh Tan Youth Union.
“We want to provide them with an outdoor space to interact, play, and cultivate multiple skills. Additionally, we aim to promote the use of sustainable materials among our next generation”, said Erick Contreras, managing director of BASF Vietnam.
Since 2019, BASF has built seven outdoor playgrounds as part of the partnership with Think Playgrounds and benefited ten thousands of children nationwide, particularly in Hanoi and HCMC.
