HCMC – The central Government has instructed HCMC to the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line into commercial service by November this year.

The directive was issued in a notice from the Government Office summarizing the second session chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha. The city is required to resolve outstanding issues with contractors and expedite necessary procedures to meet the deadline.

In a related move, Deputy Prime Minister Ha has mandated that Hanoi ensure the elevated section of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line begins commercial operations by July 28. This deadline is fixed and must be adhered to, reflecting the Government’s emphasis on timely project completion.

The Government has also outlined a comprehensive strategy for developing urban rail networks in Hanoi and HCMC.

The country’s two biggest cities are expected to finalize a unified proposal for their urban rail networks by July 26. The Ministry of Transport will then consolidate this into a single document for review.

The proposal must cover political, legal, and practical bases and define objectives, tasks, solutions, and policies for urban rail development. The final document is to be submitted to the Deputy Prime Minister by August 2.
