HCMC – The remaining 16-kilometer section of the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway is expected to open to traffic by May 18, allowing the entire 54-kilometer road to become operational.
The information was announced by Nguyen Van Ut, chairman of the Dong Nai City People’s Committee, during an inspection of Component 1 of the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway project on the morning of May 7.
This is the final unfinished section of the expressway after Components 2 and 3, spanning 38 kilometers, were temporarily opened to traffic on April 29.
Component 1 stretches 16 km through the wards of Phuoc Tan, Tam Phuoc, Binh An, Long Thanh and An Phuoc. Construction work completed so far is valued at more than VND2.2 trillion, equivalent to about 90% of the contract value.
Component 1 is still facing several technical issues. Construction has been delayed because some power lines and utility poles have not yet been relocated to clear the construction area safely.
Dong Nai authorities have instructed contractors to mobilize maximum manpower and equipment and increase construction shifts to ensure the project stays on schedule and is completed ahead of deadline.
The Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway has total investment capital of around VND17.8 trillion and is divided into three components. Once fully operational, the expressway is expected to significantly reduce congestion on National Highway 51 and cut travel time from downtown HCMC to Vung Tau to about 70 minutes, compared with more than two hours currently.
