HCMC – Thanh Son Airport in Do Vinh Ward, Khanh Hoa Province will be used for both civilian and military purposes, with capacity planned at 1.5 million passengers a year by 2030 and three million passengers by 2050.
The Ministry of Construction has approved the development plan for Thanh Son Airport for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, under which the airport in Do Vinh Ward, Khanh Hoa, will be for both civilian and military use.
Thanh Son Airport in Do Vinh Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, is currently a Grade 1 military airbase.
Under the plan, it will operate as a domestic airport capable of handling aircraft such as the Airbus A319, A320, A321 and Boeing 737, as well as similar models, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Under the plan, the airport is expected to handle about 1.5 million passengers annually by 2030, with capacity projected to increase to three million passengers a year by 2050.
The project also includes aviation infrastructure such as runways, taxiways and aircraft parking aprons, along with air traffic facilities, technical infrastructure, aviation and non aviation services, and security and rescue facilities.
The Ministry of Construction has tasked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) with finalizing the airport development plan after incorporating feedback from the ministry’s Planning and Finance Department, while coordinating with Khanh Hoa authorities and relevant agencies to announce and implement the plan in line with regulations.
The aviation authority was also asked to work with the Ministry of National Defence and local authorities to review and update defense land use and local planning to ensure consistency among development plans, while continuing to update data when necessary.
Earlier, the CAAV had submitted the Thanh Sơn Airport development plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, to the Ministry of Construction for approval.
