Bulgarian president visits Vietnam, pledges to deepen bilateral ties

HCMC – Vietnamese President Luong Cuong yesterday, November 25, presided over a welcome ceremony in honor of Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev who is in Hanoi for an official visit to Vietnam from November 24 to 28.

The two leaders held talks after the ceremony to discuss ways to strengthen Vietnam-Bulgaria relations. Cuong underscored the importance of Bulgaria as a key partner of Vietnam in Central and Eastern Europe.

The visit comes ahead of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025.

Radev praised Vietnam’s achievements in national development and international integration. He commended the country’s growing economic power and rising influence in Southeast Asia.

Both leaders acknowledged the positive trajectory of bilateral ties. They discussed concrete steps to increase exchanges of visits at all levels, fostering trust and mutual understanding.

Vietnam and Bulgaria emphasized promoting existing cooperation mechanisms like the Intergovernmental Committee and enhancing trade under the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

Bulgaria has played an important role in Vietnam’s development, particularly through human resource development programs that have trained over 30,000 high-tech workers.

Both countries committed to collaborating in areas such as information technology, supporting industries, defense and security, education, science, agriculture, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Radev said Bulgaria’s economic progress, notably in the digital sector, has positioned it as a leader in the European Union (EU)’s digital transformation.

Cuong and Radev expressed interest in exploring new avenues of cooperation, including digital transformation, mineral processing, and environmental protection.
