The Government has formally asked the National Assembly for permission to extend the special mineral extraction mechanism for common building materials until the end of 2024. Most construction projects are grappling with shortages of materials, particularly sand for roadbeds in the Mekong Delta region. The Government has submitted Report 487/BC-CP to the National Assembly, detailing the construction progress of the North-South Expressway during the 2021-2025 period. The report is set for presentation at the sixth session of the legislature, scheduled to commence on October 23, 2023. In 2021-2025, three eastern sections of the North-South Expressway project secured investment approval (Resolution 44/2022/QH15) during the National Assembly’s first extraordinary session. These sections will have a total length of 729 kilometers, and pass through 12 cities and provinces, including Ha Tinh-Quang Tri (267 kilometers), Quang Ngai-Nha Trang (353 kilometers), and Can Tho-Ca Mau (109 kilometers). The entire project, with a total investment of VND146,990 billion, is divided into 12 sub-projects with independent operations. The project is expected to be substantially completed by 2025 and operational by 2026.
