HCMC – The local retail cooking gas price soared by a staggering VND42,000 to exceed VND500,000 per 12-kilogram cylinder starting today, March 1, according to local retailers.
A representative of Saigon Petro yesterday said its retail gas price would increase VND3,500 per kilogram, equivalent to VND42,000 per 12-kilogram cylinder. As a result, customers will be charged VND502,000 for each 12-kilogram cylinder, reported Tuoi Tre newspaper.
Similarly, the price at Pacific Petro inched up VND3,500 per kilogram, or up VND21,000 per six-kilogram cylinder, VND42,000 per 12-kilogram cylinder, and VND157,500 for each 45-kilogram cylinder.
Le Quang Tuan, deputy director of Pacific Petro, said the retail prices of Pacific, Vimexco Gas, and City Petro gas products all went up, at VND524,500 per 12-kilogram cylinder and VND1.965 million per 45-kilogram cylinder.
Tuan added that domestic gas prices surged sharply in line with the global fuel price hike, as Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine has disrupted the global supply of liquefied petroleum gas.
The fuel price hike will put much pressure on consumers as well as the services and manufacturing industries, as it will push up the prices of other goods.
