HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, May 14, confirmed 1,895 fresh Covid infections in 46 cities and provinces, down by 331 cases against the day earlier. This is the lowest daily case number in 10 months.

Hanoi City took the lead in new cases with 489, followed by Nghe An with 115. Other localities had fewer than 100 cases each.

The country’s Covid case count has reached nearly 10.7 million, with over 9.3 million of them having recovered.

The ministry today also reported two new Covid fatalities in Bac Lieu and Khanh Hoa.

HCMC will start administering the fourth Covid vaccine shot from next week, said Nguyen Hoai Nam, deputy director of the municipal Department of Health.

At a meeting with voters in districts 7 and Nha Be on May 14, Nam said people aged 50 and older; people aged 18 and older with immunodeficiency; and those at risk of infection with Covid, such as frontline forces and workers in industrial parks, will receive the fourth shot first.

Laborers and inpatients will get the shot at hospitals or vaccination centers. In addition, the city will set up mobile vaccination sites and send vaccination teams to houses of residents who are not physically fit to move around.

Only those who got the third shot at least four months ago are eligible for the fourth shot. Those having got three doses and later having had Covid will have to wait at least three months after recovery to get the fourth dose.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health asked local authorities to register the numbers of doses they need for the fourth shot with institutes of hygiene and epidemiology and Pasteur Institutes before May 25.
