HCMC – The Politburo has approved in principle a plan to convert Quang Ninh Province into a centrally-run city.
Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, signed Conclusion No. 20 on the policy to transform Quang Ninh Province into a centrally-governed city based on its current administrative boundaries.
The plan envisions Quang Ninh as a green, modern and culturally distinctive city, with an integrated development model linking urban, maritime, island, border and heritage spaces into a unified ecosystem.
The Politburo called for expanding growth space and creating breakthroughs driven by science, technology and digital transformation, alongside the coordinated development of the green economy, heritage economy, marine economy, border economy, nighttime economy and cultural industries.
It also urged accelerated development of infrastructure, including roads, high-speed railways, airports, seaports and smart urban systems, to enhance connectivity among major urban centers.
At present, Vietnam has six centrally governed cities: Hanoi, HCMC, Haiphong, Hue, Danang, and Can Tho.
Recently, the Party Central Committee approved in principle the conversion of Dong Nai Province into a centrally-run city. The proposal has also been added to the agenda of the ongoing first sitting of the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam for consideration and approval.
