Daily Covid infections rise to over 24,600

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, April 13, confirmed 24,623 fresh Covid cases in all 63 cities and provinces, up 1,819 cases against the day earlier.

Hanoi City still recorded the highest number of new cases, at 1,727, followed by Phu Tho with 1,627, and Vinh Phuc with 1,147 cases.

Nghe An, Yen Bai, Daklak, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Bac Kan and HCMC had 848-989 cases each. Other localities had fewer than 800 cases each.

Nearly 13,900 Covid patients were announced to have recovered from the disease today, taking the total recoveries to over 8.77 million.

The ministry also reported 20 new Covid deaths, raising the coronavirus death toll to 42,878.

In related news, Quang Ninh Province will administer the Moderna Covid vaccine to children aged between five and 11 tomorrow, April 14, making it the first locality nationwide to vaccinate this age group against Covid-19.

At a press briefing on April 12 of the Ministry of Health, Associate Professor Duong Thi Hong, deputy head of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, said the first Moderna batch donated by Australia had arrived in Vietnam. The vaccine was allocated today, April 13.

Following Quang Ninh, other cities and province will begin the vaccination next week.

Sixth graders will be administered first, followed by younger students.

Professor Dr. Phan Trong Lan, head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine, said the country had some 11.8 million children aged between five and 11, including 8.2 million children who have yet to be infected with Covid-19.

The healthcare sector will administer two vaccine doses to these children first and try to complete the vaccination this quarter.

Some 3.6 million children who have contracted Covid-19 will be administered in July and August.
