HCMC – Last night, July 30, Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long asked Danang City to expedite Covid-19 testing on a large scale, as the number of confirmed cases is surging.

Long said that Danang City, which is now the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot, must do contact tracing at full throttle and promptly quarantine those suspected of carrying the coronavirus and boost testing, VnEpress news site reported.

It is necessary to conduct Covid-19 tests on a large scale, Long noted, adding that the ministry pledged to enhance its support and provide the city with testing equipment.

Five days ago, the ministry sent a team led by Associate Professor Le Thi Quynh Mai, deputy head of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, to Danang to help with Covid-19 testing and treatment.

The Pasteur Institutes in Nha Trang and HCMC have also dispatched experts to the city, while the ministries of Public Security and National Defense have provided the central coastal city with mobile laboratories for Covid-19 testing.

Danang can now conduct 7,000 Covid-19 tests each day, according to Long.

The Ministry of Health today, July 31, confirmed the first Covid-19 death as the coronavirus re-emerged in the country last week after 99 days without local transmission.
