HCMC – The police of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province have arrested and pressed charges against Nguyen Duc Hoang, deputy head of the provincial Fisheries Sub-Department, for his alleged lack of responsibility which caused serious consequences.
Provincial investigators searched the workplace of Hoang, aged 56, yesterday, February 13, the local media reported.
Dinh Cao Thuong, Hoang’s subordinate, was also detained for the same charges, on the same day.
The investigation results showed that in late 2020, Hoang and Thuong were assigned to supervise and check legal documents and relevant papers to offer financial aid to fishermen for their new fishing boats. However, the two showed their lack of responsibility and poor supervision to two boats while on duty, causing a loss of VND15 billion to the State budget.
Besides, their poor supervision to three other boats also caused a loss of some VND20 billion to the budget.
The arrests resulted from an expanded probe into a case of asset misappropriation and illegal invoice trading.
The investigators had earlier filed charges against the case, arresting eight individuals who deceitfully sold and bought invoices to receive financial aid packages.
