HCMC – Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha called for faster construction work on the Long Thanh International Airport project during a working visit on January 9, emphasizing the importance of keeping the passenger terminal construction work on schedule.

Ha instructed ministries, agencies and contractors to revise timelines for key components to avoid delays.

He highlighted the passenger terminal as central to the project and warned that any delay in a single package could disrupt the overall timeline, according to the Government news site (baochinhphu.vn). Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) was tasked with proposing measures to expedite construction without compromising quality.

Phase 1 of the project is set to be completed by December this year, except for facilities for animal and plant quarantine, which remain unfunded. The passenger terminal is slated to begin operations by August 31, 2026.

The runways, taxiways, aprons, and cargo terminals are expected to be completed by April 2025, three months ahead of schedule. Road connections should be operational by December 2025.

ACV is building the airport’s second runway, targeted for completion by May next year. Five out of six urgent packages in Phase 4 have been contracted, with a completion deadline of June 2026.

Vietjet has proposed investing in several components, committing to completing them within 12 months. Ha urged stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and facilitate airline participation.

The airport will be connected via five roadways and three rail lines. While some road projects are already underway, railway development is scheduled after 2025.

The People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province requested support from the Government to expedite land clearance for Phase 2 and proposed establishing a free trade zone at the airport.

Ha called on the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to finalize procedures for Phase 1 and ensure Phase 2 proceeds on track. ACV was tasked with reporting on Phase 3 and resolving outstanding issues.

The province was directed to revise zoning plans, select fuel suppliers, and secure construction materials. Ministries were urged to fulfill commitments for key transport projects, including exploring rail links between Long Thanh and Tan Son Nhat airports.
