Dinh Tien Dung no longer Hanoi’s Party secretary

HCMC – The Politburo has agreed to relieve Dinh Tien Dung of the post of Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee over the irregularities for which he was found to be responsible while he serving as minister of Finance in the 2016-2021 term.

The Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee met today, June 19, to conduct reviews and take disciplinary measures against the Party committees and members who had violated regulations or exhibited shortcomings.

After reviewing the proposal from the Central Inspection Commission, the Politburo and the Secretariat found that the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Finance during the 2016-2021 term violated Party rules and failed to fully implement the directives of the competent authorities.

They exhibited a lack of responsibility, causing violations of Party rules and State laws within the Ministry of Finance and among some organizations and members and resulted in multiple violations being committed by the ecosystem of Van Thinh Phat Group and An Dong Investment Group Corporation, and the ecosystem of Advanced International JSC (AIC).

The violations and shortcomings of the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Finance in the 2016-2021 term have led to significant repercussions, including a waste of state money, financial injury to bond investors, public dissatisfaction, and damage to the Party’s reputation.

As a high-ranking official of the Party and the Government, Dinh Tien Dung, who served as minister of Finance in the 2016-2021 term, was held accountable for the multitude of violations that occurred at the Ministry of Finance.

Before the Politburo and the Secretariat annonced their decisions, Dung had submitted a letter seeking resignation from all his posts and retirement.

The Politburo today allowed Dinh Tien Dung to pull out of the Executive Committee and the Standing Committee of the Hanoi City Party Committee, and resign as secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee in the 2020-2025 term.

Additionally, he is no longer the head of the Hanoi City delegation to the 15th National Assembly. But the 63-year-old is still a member of the Politburo.

The Secretariat also issued a warning to the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Finance in the 2016-2021 term.

On the same day, Nguyen Van Yen, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, was removed from all his Party posts, the Party Central Committee Office announced.

He was found to have violated Party rules and State laws on “protecting State secrets, declaring assets, income, marriage, and family”. He also violated the Party’s regulations on what party members must not do and the responsibility to act as role models, resulting in very serious consequences, and causing public indignation.
