Early opening of Van Phong–Nha Trang expressway rejected

HCMC – The Van Phong–Nha Trang expressway will not be opened to traffic earlier than planned, as key conditions remain unmet, according to Project Management Board No. 7 under the Ministry of Transport.

In December 2024, the contractor proposed an early opening, aiming to shorten the timeline by four months. However, the board declined the proposal, citing unfinished technical components.

Critical elements such as the road foundation and traffic safety systems are still incomplete, the board stated. Contractors must complete all inspection processes and meet quality standards before the expressway can become operational.

Heavy rainfall in recent months has further delayed construction progress. Despite these setbacks, contractors are pushing to meet the Government’s target for project completion by the end of 2025.

The 83-kilometer expressway, which connects Van Ninh and Dien Khanh districts in Khanh Hoa Province, requires over VND11.8 trillion. The project is being developed in two phases, starting with four lanes in the first phase and expanding to six lanes in the subsequent stages.
