Eight dead, seven injured in head-on collision in Binh Thuan

HCMC – A serious head-on collision between a 16-seater car and a truck in the south-central province of Binh Thuan on the National Highway 1A section passing through Tan Duc Commune, Ham Tan District, at some 1 a.m. today, July 21, killed at least eight people and injured seven others.

Nguyen Thanh Hiep, a resident of Lam Dong Province, was driving the 16-seater car with license plate number 86B-01087, when he crashed into the truck coming from the opposite direction, with license plate number 79N-0315 and driven by Pham Thanh Tung from Khanh Hoa Province.

The accident killed six people on the spot, while two others were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation results indicated that the car driver was driving on the wrong lane and caused the accident.

Local forces were called to the scene of the crash to deal with the aftermath. Traffic on the road section where the accident took place returned to normal only at 5 a.m.

The police are investigating deeper to determine the exact cause of the accident.
