HCMC – The Government is pushing for swifter construction of key expressways in the Mekong Delta, with Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway targeted for completion by 2025 and Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway expected to be substantially finished by 2026.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha recently presided over a meeting to address challenges hindering the progress of these infrastructure projects. Delays in material supply, sand mine suspensions, and land acquisition issues have continued to impede construction.
The Ministry of Transport has been directed to collaborate with relevant agencies to assess material needs and ensure timely supply. To mitigate potential shortages, the ministry will continue exploring the use of sea sand as an alternative resource and submit detailed proposals to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
To support construction, Soc Trang Province initiated sea sand mining operations in June. Thousands of cubic meters of this sand have already been transported to construction sites in Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, and Ca Mau.
The B1.3 mine has been granted permission to maintain a steady supply of sand for the project.
The province has also secured approval for five new sand mines along the Hau River, totaling over 450 hectares and with reserves exceeding 11 million cubic meters.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive assessment of both river and sea sand reserves in the region and coordinating with other ministries to allocate necessary supplies.
