HCMC – Heavy fog and low visibility at Noi Bai International Airport led to at least 37 flights diverting this morning.

A representative of Noi Bai International Airport said that of the 37 flights that were diverted between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., 12 landed at Cat Bi airport in Haiphong City while the others returned to their airports of origin.

At 4:30 a.m., Noi Bai started delaying aircraft landings and takeoffs, affecting many domestic flights. By 9 a.m., 54 flights scheduled for departure from Noi Bai postponed takeoffs.

Vietnam Airlines, the national flag airline, said that dense fog affected 40 of its scheduled flights, with 10 departures from Noi Bai being rescheduled.

The airline also adjusted the departure times for flights originating from other airports, including Tho Xuan in Thanh Hoa Province, Vinh in Nghe An Province, and Phu Bai in Thua-Thien Hue.

The departure delays also impacted 20 flights at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC.

As of 9:30 a.m., the weather improved, allowing for the resumption of departures from Noi Bai. Arriving flights at the airport received ground support to ensure their safety.
